Castle Di Amorosa, Napa, California

Castle Di Amorosa Napa, California is an authentically-styled, 13th century medieval Tuscan-style castle. Medieval designs and construction methods were employed to create the Castle. It is a 136,000 sq. ft. castle. It was built with the intent of it becoming Dario Sattui’s winery to showcase his award winning wines. The property on which Castillo di Amorosa stands was purchased more than two decades ago. Dario Sattui came from a winemaking family. With Sattui’s passion for medieval architecture and knowledge of Italian design, the idea to recreate a castle in California was born. It took 15 years of research before the project started. Castello di Amorosa was constructed to emulate the authentic 13th-century Tuscan castles owned by Italy’s elite. Every element of design and furnishing was chosen so that visitors can experience the majestic nature of an Italian fortress. 5 defensive towers with battlements were built on the corners of the castle. 1,000 pound hand-hewn doors from Italy were imported. There are 107 Rooms of which 95 are devoted to winemaking. They use Italian handmade state-of-the-art triple-jacketed fermentation tanks during the wine making process. The Great Hall has a coffered ceiling (22 ft. high). There are featured hand-painted frescoes inspired by Ambrogio Lorenzetti and a 500 year-old fireplace.

Additional authentic features include a Church, Drawbridge, Courtyard, Watch Tower, Torture Chamber, Loggia, Deep-Well, Secret Passage Ways, and an Outdoor Oven. The building of the Castle almost bankrupted Satui. But, in the end Satui and the Castle have flourished.

Castillo di Amorosa is the one of Napa Valley’s most unique wineries. At over 136,000 square feet, the 13th century Tuscan-style castle and winery offers a variety of tour options including Reserve wine tours, food and wine pairing tours and vineyard education tours.
