Tunnel View, Shaped By Storms, Yosemite NP

Tunnel View, Shaped By Storms, Yosemite NP.  Explore the beautiful view of Yosemite Valley.  El Capitan is on the left.  One of the tree brothers is exposed on the right foreground.  Sentinel Rock is to the left of the Three Brothers. The clearing  storm  exposed  Half Dome in the distance as the fog begins to lift.

Drought has taken a tole on the beautiful redwood trees that line the valley floor.  Drought lowered the resistance of the trees to bark beetle infestation.  Death to the trees occurred. Therefore the trees have turned orange.

The photograph depicts a  beautiful stormy view of Yosemite Valley.  That seemed like a perfect combination for Tunnel View.  I  set my camera set up.  The clouds parted to get this beautiful shot.

What is the Wawona Tunnel View?

Tunnel View overlook has been renovated.  These are the first changes to this area since constructed in 1933.  Re-dedicated in an Oct. 24, 2008 ceremony.  Tunnel View scenic overlook is a historic site.  Located adjacent to Wawona Road.  It affords expansive views of Yosemite Valley, El Capitan, Bridalveil Falls, and Half Dome. The overlook was constructed during an era that heralded a boom in rustic design and development throughout the National Park Service.  Wawona Tunnel and Tunnel View were determined eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986 because of their exemplary design.

The 2008 renovatation include an expanded handicap accessible viewing area, improved traffic flow, educational exhibits, and historic rockwork. A $3 million project was funded by The Yosemite Fund and the National Park Service as part of the President’s Centennial Initiative. Very little physical change occurred to Tunnel View’s physical features (including rockwork, circulation patterns, and configuration) since it was built.  For more information go to https://www.nps.gov/yose/learn/nature/scenic-vistas-tunnel-view.htm
