Wallowa Lake Sunbeams, NE Oregon Displayed After Rainfall

Wallowa Lake Sunbeams, NE Oregon Displayed After Rainfall.  Considered a ribbon lake.   It sits 1 mile south of Joseph, Oregon.  Elevation of 4,372 ft. Impounded by high moraines.  Formed by a series of Pleistocene glaciers.

In addition, a small community exists along the lake.  Comprised of vacation homes, lodging, restaurants and small businesses. Wallowa Lake is best known as a recreation area.

The State Park sits at the southern tip of the lake.  City of Joseph in Wallowa County is closest city.

For a camping experience take your tent or RV.  Full hookups are available. The campground has yurts, cabins, tepees, and reservable group tents.  Swimming and a boat ramp are on the lake. Wonderful! Marvelous! I cannot rave about Wallowa Lake State Park enough.  Hike numerous trails, fish,  lounge on one of the floating picnic areas, shop or have coffee, take a tram to the top of a mountain and see the valley, or veg out and watch nature in action, this is the place to be.  Wherever you are beauty surrounds.

The Wallowa–Whitman National Forest, a United States National Forest is located in the states of Oregon and Idaho. Formed upon the merger of the Wallowa and Whitman national forests in 1954.   Located in the northeastern corner of the state. Comprised of Wallowa, Baker, Union, Grant, and Umatilla counties in Oregon. Included are small areas in Nez Perce and Idaho counties in Idaho.

The forest is named for the Wallowa band of the Nez Perce people.  Wallowa–Whitman National Forest was first occupied by the Nez Perce people. The area was the summer home of the Joseph Band of the Nez Perce tribe. Cayuse, Shoshone and Bannock tribes arrived in the area some time later.  The area also takes it’s name from Marcus and Narcissa Whitma.  Presbyterian missionaries who settled just to the north in 1836.

In conclusion, this area is best known for it’s recreational facilities.  Get outdoors!   Have a great time! http://oregonstateparks.org/index.cfm?do=parkPage.dsp_parkPage&parkId=20
